STRØM STUDIOS – KØDBYEN

A VINTAGE SOUND LAB AND ELECTRONIC MUSIC STUDIO IN COPENHAGEN

Powered by Lydskatten and Strøm
– in the Meatpacking District of Vesterbro, Copenhagen

In Collaboration with the Pioneers

In collaboration with Danish electronic music pioneers Fuzzy and Gunner Møller Pedersen, Strøm has established Strøm Studios – Kødbyen. This vintage sound lab and electronic music studio is located in the heart of Copenhagen’s Meatpacking District.

The Opportunity

We are seeking artists to utilise the studio through short- or long-term residencies. These residencies are provided free of charge, though please note that accommodation and meals are not included.

About Strøm Studios

Strøm is Denmark’s institution for electronic music. Since 2006, we have operated as a non-profit dedicated to concerts, installations, network and knowledge-sharing. In recent years, we have expanded to include music studios and residencies to further support the electronic music communities.

Located in the Meatpacking District, Strøm Studios – Kødbyen is a lab for sonic heritage. As the home of Lydskatten, the studio functions as a living museum and archive. It is a space for deep-listening and sound exploration, focused on activating Danish electronic music history through hands-on creation.

The Lydskatten Collection

About the Lydskatten Collection

The studio is based on the Lydskatten Collection (‘the Sound Treasure’), a growing archive of rare instruments and equipment. It includes tapes, photos, and materials dating back to the 1950s.

The collection features acquisitions from Else Marie Pade, Gunner Møller Pedersen and Fuzzy, as well as contributions from the Technical University of Denmark, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, and private donors.

Technical Specs

The studio is designed for hands-on exploration and experimental work, featuring:

  • Vintage Gear: Filter and oscillator units, tape machines, delays and spring reverbs.
  • Heritage Hardware: Rare Danish equipment from Lyrec, DR, DTU and Brüel & Kjær.
  • Modern Integration: A high-end Dynaudio monitoring setup and Rostec AD/DA converters.

By focusing on Danish brands, Strøm offers a unique and incomparable local sonic environment.

Terms

This is a non-profit initiative; studio use is free. While we don’t offer payment, coffee, tea, and good vibes are on the house.

In return, we ask that residents respect the equipment, the space, and the broader Strøm community. Please read the requirements below:

Requirements

  • Share: Provide photos, videos, and a brief mini-interview about your process or favourite gear to be published by Strøm.
  • Credit: If your residency leads to a release, please credit Lydskatten and Strøm (@strmdk).
  • Log: Help us maintain our studios by noting any technical issues. If an instrument or machine feels a bit off, simply move on to the next one and let us know.
  • Donate: We invite you to contribute to our collective sound pool by leaving behind samples, sketches, or sounds created during your residency. These contributions will be cut onto vinyl records by Kommunal Dubplate Service and eventually shared online by Strøm as a non-profit community sound library for artists worldwide.
